Project description:

The Ministry of Heath of the Republic of Azerbaijan expressed its interest in getting technical support on healthcare waste management. WHO, Vaccine Preventable Diseases & Immunization programme already supported several missions on injection safety in the recent years, and with the renewed financial support of GAVI proposes now to bring expertise on healthcare waste management.

The overall objective of the assignment is to support the set up of a national working group, the development of a national policy and action plan on healthcare waste management and to evaluate the activities of pilot projects in appointed districts in Azerbaijan.

Services provided by ETLog Health EnviroTech & Logistics GmbH 

The WHO consultant, an Environmental Health Specialist, from ETLog Health EnviroTech & Logistics GmbH Germany, was working directly with Departments of the Ministry of Health. The assignment was to cover:

•  A brief desk review of existing documentation on healthcare waste management for the specified country.

• The organization of an initial meeting with key partners at national level (Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, WHO, World Bank, Vishnevskaya-Rostropovich Foundation and other stakeholders) to design the official working group and to draft a first work plan.

• Technical support on the development and adoption of legal regulations, national policy and healthcare waste strategy.
