Project description:

Prevention of nosocomial infections is one of the urgent tasks for the Tanzanian health sector. Within the frame of the HiDP (Health infrastructure Development Program) in Tanga Region measures were carried out to improve infection control.

Within the framework of the German-Tanzanian Development Cooperation, the “Health Infrastructure Development Project” is set up to improve the health service delivery in Tanga Region and to improve the health infrastructure in Tanga. One part of the health infrastructure will be the improvement of the waste management system. The project is financed by KfW Development Bank on behalf of the German Federal Government.

Services provided by ETLog Health EnviroTech & Logistics GmbH:

  • Implementation of an advanced and adapted waste management system for the six district hospitals;

  • Training courses incl. preparation;

  • On-site support incl. preparation Rapid assessment of the actual environmental health situation in the health sector of Tanga;

  • Training and Workshops of multiplier and hospital staff;

  • Follow up Training

    • Review of the actual HCW situation in the Hospitals

    • Clearance of open points / difficulties / lessons learned

    • Identification of still existent weak points

    • Calculation of a yearly budget, needed for HCW

    • Development of a work plan 2008-2009

  • Improving the recycling system;

  • Support of the hospitals during the implementation phase;
