Within the framework of the German-Tanzanian Development Cooperation, the German Government supports the efforts of the United Republic of Tanzania to improve the health infrastructure. The main objective of this program is to contribute towards the enhancement of public health service delivery in the Tanga Region (Border to Kenya) through improved health infrastructure (Date: 2006). Among others foreseen measures, it included the planning and supervision of building construction and rehabilitation, medical and non-medical supplies and the support of permanent and sustainable maintenance planning for investment measures. In total 6 existing hospitals and up to 7 existing health centers were rehabilitated, including the medical and non-medical waste management and disposal as well as the improvement of the sewage and storm water drainage and treatment system.
The envisaged program also included the set up of a HCW management strategy and development plan for the entire district Tanga as well as accompanying measurements as the training of the trainers.
