Project description:

Georgia received funds from the World Bank to control HPAI (High Pathogenic Avian Influenza) Infection and to respond to potential human pandemic effectively. The overall development objective of the project is to minimize the threat posed to humans and the poultry industry in Georgia by HPAI and other zoonoses in domestic poultry, and to prepare for, control, and respond to influenza pandemics and other infectious disease emergencies in humans. To achieve this, three areas are being supported by the project: (i) prevention; (ii) preparedness and planning; and (iii) response and containment.

The overarching objective of this project was to develop a comprehensive system of the Health Care Waste Management System (HCWM) in Georgia to ensure correct management in case of an HPAI outbreak. This shall be reached by (i) revising the existing relevant documents, (ii) development the National Comprehensive System of the Health Care Waste Management (HCWM), (iii) development the training curriculum and (iv) conducting the Training of Trainers for the implementation of the HCWM on the national and regional levels.

Services provided by ETLog Health EnviroTech & Logistics:

  • To participate in the conduction of a current situation analysis related to the HCW management. Namely
    • analyze legislation and regulatory framework of the HCWM;
    • characterize the HCW production and practices nationwide; and
    • institutional and monitoring capacities.
  • Define a Policy and National Guidelines on HCWM.
  • Formulate a National Strategy outlining steps required to achieve the objectives stipulated in the Policy.
  • Institutional capacity building of the Enforcement Authorities incl. training of enforcement authorities.
  • Develop HCF code of Practice - The HCF waste management code describing the standards and procedures for the each type of HCF
