Project description:

The Government of Saint Lucia (GOSL) is committed to preventing the spread of the HIV/AIDS epidemic from escalating and posing a significant problem to the socio-economic development of the country. GOSL has secured financing from the World Bank (IBRD/IDA) towards implementation of the Saint Lucia HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Project to expand and intensify the national response to the epidemic. This project, which aims to support and will be guided by the NSP, articulates the following development objectives:

1. Preventing spread of HIV/AIDS in the general population and reducing transmission among high-risk groups;
2. Improving access of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) to effective, affordable, equitable care that is within the context of the government health policy; and
3. Strengthening national and sub-national institutional capacity to respond to HIV/AIDS in a sustainable way.

The Overall Objective of this project component was to strengthen management of healthcare wastes at Victoria hospital.

Services provided by ETLog Health EnviroTech & Logistics:

Five main tasks comprise the scope of services:

1. Appraisal of hospital waste management procedures and determination of healthcare waste generation rates;
2. Evaluation of hospital waste treatment/destruction and disposal technologies and schemes;
3. Preparation of technical specifications;
4. Preparation of hospital-specific waste management plans;
5. Hospital waste management training.
